The American dream and access for women
The American pageant stereotyping young women since 1920. How has the pageant world affected the idea of the American women? Pageantry is known for focusing on women’s physical appearance, something rarely linked to the American Dream for men. Throughout this investigation readers will look at, if pageantry helps the American women achieve her American Dream or does it potentially close off access for some women who don't "fit the mold". The reader will interrogate the role of the beauty pageant through a gender lens; some of the focusing issues being: femininity, men materializing women and the influence of pop culture.
